.
1. Some more findings from NLSS 2010
Households with Access to Electricity
14 percent in 1995/96
37 percent in 2003/04
70 percent in 2010/11
Households using LPG for cooking

Households receiving remittance

31.9 percent in 2003/04
56 percent in 2010/11
Between 1995/96 and 2010/11,
Access to Safe Drinking Water increased from 70.4 percent to 83 percent
Access to Primary Schools increased from 88 percent to 95 percent
Access to Health Centers increased from 45 percent to 74 percent
Access to Market Centers increased from 24 percent to 45 percent
Access to Paved Roads increased from 24 percent to 51 percent
Contribution of Agriculture to household income decreased from 61 percent to 27.7 percent
Contribution of Non-Agriculture sector to household income increased from 22 percent to 37.2 percent
Inactive population decreased from 29.4 percent to 19.9 percent
Below is a handy little picture showing the access to basic facilities:

2. Far-western Nepal has been on strike for 3 days demanding a university in that region
3. NGOs and INGOs in Nepal are not complying with Labor Act
20,000 foreign nationals work with NGOs and INGOs within Nepal.
Only 300 of them have a work permit to work in Nepal.
7000 foreigners work in other private enterprises in Nepal and have work permits.
Thousands of others don't have work permit.
4. Gold reaches historic high
If I were to buy gold, I would wait. The market price of gold is always hedged against the strength of the US dollar. So, I would not want to buy gold today. I would wait until the US economy gets stronger, which would mean the gold would get cheaper.
5. London is burning
The reason: poor race relations between minority Afro-Caribbean population and the police. Also, the high unemployment rate among the English youths has not helped. The frustrated and unemployed youths have burnt public property like buses, and private property like cars and houses.
The Nepalese are lucky in this regard. If going overseas for jobs were not easy for the Nepalese youths, they would also be frustrated and burning things. The Nepalese governments should consider themselves very lucky that our youths continue to find jobs overseas. If that were not the case, we would see Kathmandu burning.
6. On August 9, 1945 the United States dropped an Atom Bomb in the Japanese city of Nagasaki

*The bomb was dropped at 11:02 am by Major Charles Sweeney from the plane named Bockscar
*The bomb killed 73,884 and injured 74,909 people
*The bomb was named "Fat Man" (picture above)
